Floods victim Response

GAIL

General Alliance Insurance om Thursday donated relief items worth K2.5 million to people who were affected by recent floods in Zomba District.

It donated maize flour, cooking oil and sova soya pieces to 220 people camping at Mbidi Primay School in the area of Traditional Authority Mwambo, Jali.

general Alliance Business Development Manager, Mphatso Kamzingeni Zulu, said the donation was part of the insurance company’s corporate social responsibility.

“After we heard that some people were affected by floods in the area of Traditional Authority Mwambo, we thought it wise to help them.

“We understand these people are lacking basic needs and being at the camp means they are not able to do what they would have been doing when they were in their homes” Zulu said.

Zulu said this was not the only thing the company was doing as a way of giving back to communities in which it operates.

one of the beneficiaries, 64- Year-old Joyce Mitongwe, who comes from Chibisa Village said living at the camp has negatively impacted her well-being and life in general.

“My house collapsed and I have nowhere to go except the camp. Foods is a major problem here as it is not provided. Fortunately, thanks to General Alliance for the donation. We will be able to survive for a few more days, “Mitongwe said.
